My girlfriend surprised me for my birthday in January 2025 with an overnight stay at the Talbot hotel, on arrival it was a case of wow! What a Fabulous building with a lovely stroll from car park to reception, the lady on reception was very welcoming and wished me happy birthday with an upgrade to a suite! Wow again!!! But not only an upgrade, she told me that my dinner was free too! Double wow!! The suite was huge and fabulous, the restaurant was fabulous, the meal was amazing and the staff were extremely polite and helpful! We will definitely be visiting again to try out afternoon tea, and all I can say to anyone thinking of going is, “GET YOURSELF BOOKED IN” and treat your wife, partner, husband, friend or anyone!! The Talbot Hotel, Oundle is an exceptional character hotel in a lovely location within a small village. The rooms are well furnished, comfortable, warm and quiet with all the amenities you would expect from a country hotel. The staff are welcoming, helpful and attentive at all times and nothing is too much trouble. The breakfast menu was generous and fairly priced and the dining room and its seating arrangements were lovely. The hotels quaint character was very conducive for a family catch up. It’s the small things that make a difference to a hotel stay, from the super king size bed to the complimentary nespresso coffee maker, bottled water and glass covers in the bedrooms. Or the bone china used in the coffee shop and the complimentary chocolates that accompanied your tea/coffee. A special mention for Gail who organised our room and Jo who looked after us at breakfast. An exceptional stay all round.

Wow! What a hotel, the building, the history, the location is amazing. The staff were attentive and welcoming, the room was cosy and clean, decorated nicely with clean luxurious bathroom and nice sized bed. The Roberts radio playing classical music was a nice touch too. Located in a lovely historic village with all buildings made from sandstone, with Christmas decorations in the high street made the whole place feel magical. Breakfast was nice. I'm very impressed and will come back again.

We booked a room in this hotel by sheer luck, on our way back from a trip to Yorkshire. We were first struck by the beauty of the building, and the beauty of Oundle too. Being a big fan of old British buildings I totally fell in love with this one, decorated with taste. We got upgraded for our wedding anniversary and the suite we stayed was so large it even had steps down to our lovely bathroom. We were welcomed into our room with peaceful classical music. We had dinner at the restaurant and enjoyed a very tasty meal. In the morning we were offered many breakfast options and we loved the breakfast room (we think their website pictures don’t do it justice). We loved the wooden staircase and its history linked to Mary Queen of Scots. We had the most amazing time at this hotel. We’d rather selfishly keep the name of this hotel to ourselves in order for it to never be fully booked so they always have a room available for us but feel like we really have to reward the staff with the review they deserve. Receptionists were incredibly helpful when my husband realised he had lost his passport, traced it back to the laundry company and even sent it back to our home in France for free. We will definitely come back for another stay and are planning to take the time to discover the surroundings of the hotel this time. Thank you again so much for your kindness and care.

I went to a concert in the Westgate Suite. The room is used for functions It is comfortable and cosy. There was a functional bar bar downstairs and a reasonable space upstairs. The event was well publicised by a third party organiser. I had an issue with the concert, but not with the helpful staff at the Talbot.

The rooms and setting are beautiful, and the town is lovely, but sadly the food is consistently terrible and really lets down an otherwise lovely place.

Wow, what history and that staircase. Just called in for a drink on way to Norfolk. Amy was so genuinely friendly polite and helpful. Will make a point of going back to stay over

Very nice hotel and allows dogs in certain rooms. Room was very warm other than that very comfortable. Service and food was very good, friendly and helpful staff. Well located to explore local areas. Whilst hotel allows dogs it isn't ideal as there is a lack of green areas and dog bins.

Popped in when we stopped off in Oundle ..decided to have lunch in the restaurant..food was OUTSTANDING ..great service ...great location ...cannot fault ..would recommend to anyone

Awful food. Stale bread, withered salad, off cheese. We both felt quite ill after ordering what should be a simple enough lunch. Mezze board and a bagel with chips. Never again.
